The Box No. P85 Mk 1 Ammunition Box is an ex-British Army military surplus metal transport container originally designed to hold and protect 105mm mortar shell containers.
Heavy-duty brown or olive drab painted steel.
Sturdy metal flip-up carry handles mounted on either end.
Originally fitted with fabric straps designed to help soldiers lift out the internal toughened cardboard 105mm mortar tubes.
Typically stamped with "BOX NO P85 MK 1" along with original military warning labels, year of manufacture, and lot number.
Stencilled markings will indicate the last item this box was used to store and distribute by the Department of Defence.
