Case, Small Arms, Ammunition, M16A1 Rifle

The cotton M16A1 ammunition case was shorter than the universal pouch and was capable of accommodating four 20rd magazines for the M16 rifle. The pouch attached to the pistol belt via two slide keepers and had a supporting strap that clipped to the metal loop on the suspenders. In common with the majority of ammunition cases it had strips on both sides for attaching hand grenades.
It is a shorter version of the universal pouch, made of cotton canvas to better fit the smaller 20-round magazines compared to the standard M14 magazines.

This is the standard magazine pouch used by the US Army in Korea & Vietnam.
